The Glory of Children

The glory of children are their fathers – Proverbs 17:6

By nature children are naturally drawn to their parents. Natural observation bears this truth out. Fathers are respected and revered in the family. They have the GOD-given authority and position within the family. GOD commands children to obey their FATHERs.. However, for the children to acknowledge that their fathers as their glory is quite another matter. That means that the children are able to look to their fathers not merely based on the father’s role but also based on their works. What works needs to be gone that if seen by the children, will lead the children to consider their fathers to be the children’s glory?

1. A father needs to deal with his own sin: Exodus 20:5… I the LORD thy GOD am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; Everytime a sin is committed, GOD is despised, His holiness rejected and His Son hated. The father’s sin has a special transference, in that unless it is confessed and repented of, the consequences of sin are projected and placed on the future generation. Many families are broken by the sins of the fathers. The children learns what the father does, says and loves. When there are sins in the father’s life, there is corruption in the head of the family and as a result, there will be death ensuing in the family in time. The children will learn what the father does and does, by default brings eternal death to the family. UNLESS THE FATHER REPENTS AND TURNS FROM HIS SIN.. Many a family has been brought back from utter destruction, because one member turns back to GOD. Father, do you have sin in your life? Do you realize, unless the sin is repented of, it brings hurt and consequences to the family.

2. A father needs to declare the Saviour: 1 Samuel 2:12 Now the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; they knew not the LORD. Eli was the high priest of Israel, and it is therefore assumed that he knew Jehovah GOD in His glory. And yet, his sons are the sons of belial, (of Satan). Is it not strange that the children will not love the GOD of Eli, the wonderful GOD that has saved Israel with mighty deliverance? Unless Eli, the father has not been teaching his children about the GOD of Israel? Sadly, many children today do not know GOD as their saviour, simply because the father do not teach the children the word of GOD. Father, unless you want your children to be the sons of the devil, we need to declare the saviour, so that they can know and place their faith in Christ.

3. A father needs to determine to serve GOD: Joshua 24:15 …but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. There are many fathers today who are very complacent when it comes to serving GOD. They do not have the energy nor the enthusiasm in the saviour’s work. Self pleasure, and comfort comes before toil and work for the Lord, convenience for self comes before commitment to the saviour. Not Joshua: as for ME AND MY HOUSE, WE WILL SERVE THE LORD. It was a determined answer as Joshua is concerned, and there it is important that Fathers we take the lead in serving GOD in the local church.

Fathers are you dealing with personal sin, are you declaring the saviour and are you determined to serve the Saviour? If so, keep doing it. If not, seek to include these things in your life, for it you do these things, ye shall never fall.

Blessed Fathers’ Day!!
