Coming to Christ

Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. – John 8:12

Light is an important element for this world: we need light to see and to find our direction. It is no far-fetched saying that light is life. Without light, we would not be able to do the things we want simply because we cannot see. Yet, the Bible tells us that some see but cannot perceive. There are clearly two layers of seeing: physical sight and spiritual sight. Many can see physically, but their hearts, blind to the truth of the Lord, cannot see the light that comes from GOD. Jesus proclaims that He is the Light of the world, and through Him, we can have Light for this life. How do we claim this light?

By recognising that the light of this world is Jesus
There is clearly no one else! “I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE!” The Lord Jesus is unmistakably the Light of this world. His words verify it, His actions confirm it and His love recommends it. Everyone who has come to Christ has that Light available to him for life and for living because Jesus is not only shining His life, He is the Light that lighteth every man that cometh into this world! Jesus is the Light!

By receiving the light for this Christian journey
“He that followeth me shall not walk in darkness.”

The word “followeth” implies a union with Christ; a walking along the same road. A man who has union with Christ will walk the same road and directions as Christ. The easy way leads to destruction: the way of Christ, though hard and self-denying, leads to life everlasting. What does it mean to follow Christ? Following Christ means to love Him and to love Him means to obey Him.

Jesus answered and said unto them, If a man love me, he will keep my words: – John 14:23

We will want to imitate all that He said, and do what He did! When we walk with the Lord, in the light of His Word, what a glory He sheds on our way! He will not allow us to walk in darkness because if we are in union with Him, our paths are ever-lit by His presence and we shall not walk in darkness.

By rejoicing in the Light of Life
What is this light of life? It is the grace and strength of GOD that gives us the strength to live and persevere in this life. When we recognize that Jesus is the Light and have received the light of Christ, we can then rejoice in the grace, the strength and continous mercy that GOD provides for us to do right and to love Him and serve Him.

Dear Christian, do you have the light of this life, or do you walk through life unsure, governed only by your own ways and your own decisions? God wants us to come by prayer and fasting towards His glorious Light. Will we come?
