Men Ought Always to Pray
Luke 18:1 – …men ought always to pray…
Our Saviour teaches men to pray. His teachings are not as the Pharisees but as one with authority. The Lord Jesus knows that life has its difficulties and trials and unless we have supernatural help, we are hopeless. Many prayerless saints claim to have found solutions but their answers to their issues have shipwrecked their faith and cause them not to walk with GOD. They have compromised their faith and they have belittled the gospel and her principles. The Lord Jesus teaches that men need to pray and that MAN OUGHT to pray. The key word is ought: we are commanded to pray and we are commanded to seek for answers from GOD.
Notice firstly, as men, we must pray … men is a generic word meaning all of mankind. But it is clear from the context that the Lord Jesus is teaching His people. Are we the people of GOD? Then we must pray. Our spiritual heritage gives us the privilege of divine help, our position in Christ assures us that He will hear and that His promises are available to us. A christian without prayer indicates lifelessness in the soul , or a breakdown in communion with GOD.
Notice secondly, we must ALWAYS PRAY … it is not merely the occasional prayer in times of need, but it is the constant, heartfelt, urgent and sincere prayer that goes to God. We ought to ALWAYS PRAY. Do we not have needs? Is there no prayer that can be offered for the lost, the sick, the hurting, the missionaries and church? The lost will still be lost, the sick, the hurting, the missionaries and the church may all not have divine help because we do not pray. God oversees them, but He asks us to pray.
Notice thirdly, we must always pray, AND NOT FAINT … fainting is an indication of weakness, an indication of failing strength. We are to pray without fainting: ONLY GOD CAN SUSTAIN US IN THIS MATTER. GEnuine spiritual praying generates more and more spiritual power with GOD for they that wait upon the Lord shall RENEW THEIR STRENGTH.
Dear friend, have you lost your zeal for prayer? What is the reason for the loss? Never blame GOD for our prayerlessness because GOD commands us to pray, He gives us the strength to do so and He instructs us how to pray: to persevere in pleading our petitions before the court of Heaven. And He invites us to come to Him … Are you praying ?
