He Leadeth Me…

…He leadeth me… – Psalms 23:2

Ever since our salvation, God has given us this promise of His leadership for our good. He yearns for His people to follow Him so that He can bring us to a place for our good. The hymn writer writes: He leadeth me, O blessed thought, O words with heavenly comfort fraught. What a blessing it is for God to lead us, His people.

In this verse, we learn that GOD is the One who leads. The God who sees the beginning from the end, the God who knows the dangers and the valleys ahead, the one who understands the trials and foresees the pitfalls ahead, GOD is the one who is leading. There is none whose knowledge is more perfect than the Lord’s and it is this Sovereign Lord who leads us.

Not only is it the Lord who leads us, He does it actively for the word leadeth is in the active present tense. God lets the angels take care of us but He leads us actively. He purposes in His heart the direction and goal for each of us, and He opens and closes opportunities in line with His intentions for our good. He hedges our way and ensures that our lives are in line with His goals and intentions. He not only leads, He guides. He impresses on us the goodness of His ways, and the benefits of His will; He gently leads, provides the strength and if necessary chides us that we may see His will and be guided in His ways. He leadeth is a promise.

Notice also that God actively leads ME… A sovereign all power Creator, the King of the Universe leads sinful man like us. What a thought!! What condescension by our GOD! How we should humble ourselves to think that our GOD most high condescend to us! How submitted must we be to His will and ways!

As me move to a new place as a local church, led by the Great Shepherd, may we understand as His people, that GOD our Creator, actively leads us. May we take comfort in this promise that He goes before us. Let us therefore be humble, yielded and be good followers of our GOD, for truly, He leadeth me…
